Current weather at GOI/GOX
Loading current conditions…
Live conditions via OpenWeatherMap — useful for packing and planning, but always check your airline’s app for weather-related flight delays. Given Goa’s two airports are ~70km apart, treat this as a general regional reading, not airport-specific.
The most important decision
GOI or GOX — which airport do you actually need?
Goa has two unconnected airports, 70 km apart. Booking the wrong one can add 2+ hours and ₹1,500–4,000 in taxi fare to your trip. Before you book, check your ticket’s airport code — GOI or GOX — against where you’re actually staying.
The original airport, near Vasco da Gama — a civil enclave sharing a runway with INS Hansa, the Indian Navy’s air station. Single integrated terminal.
Choose GOI if: you’re staying in South Goa (Majorda, Colva, Benaulim, Palolem, Agonda, Cavelossim) — the transfer is dramatically shorter from here.
Goa’s new primary airport at Mopa, opened January 2023 — modern, spacious, and now handling the majority of Goa’s air traffic, including most long-haul international charters.
Choose GOX if: you’re staying in North Goa (Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Vagator, Morjim, Arambol, Ashwem, Mandrem) — this is now the closer, larger, less congested option.
Splitting your trip between North and South Goa? You can book a genuine multi-city: fly into whichever airport is closer to your first stop, and out of whichever is closer to your last — both airports are bookable on the same search on most flight sites.
As GOX expands, it’s expected to become Goa’s primary airport over time, with Dabolim’s role gradually reducing — but as of 2026, both are fully operational. Always double-check the airport code on your specific ticket rather than assuming.
Flying out
Departures
Arrive 3 hours before international flights and 2–2.5 hours before domestic — Goa’s peak season (December–January, plus Easter) sees both airports running at full capacity, so add extra buffer during those windows.
GOI (Dabolim) — the naval curfew
Because Dabolim shares its runway with the Navy, commercial flights typically cannot operate roughly 8:30 AM–12:30 PM on weekdays — this creates “wave” clusters of departures early morning and from early afternoon onward. If your flight is delayed toward that window, expect a hold. Security screening here is more manual than at newer airports, given the sensitive military setting — never photograph the runway, aircraft, or military areas, it’s treated as a serious security matter.
GOX (Mopa) — the easier one
A standalone civilian airport with no runway-sharing restrictions and 24/7 operations. Modern single terminal, generally calmer processing than Dabolim. DigiYatra is active at both airports — register in the app to save time at entry.
Landing here
Arrivals
Both airports have separate domestic and international arrival flows. International: immigration, baggage, customs (green channel if nothing to declare). Domestic: straight to baggage reclaim.
In the arrivals hall
- SIM cards: telecom counters at both airports’ international arrivals — bring your passport and a photo.
- Left luggage: available at GOI arrivals, roughly ₹300–500 per bag per 24 hours.
- Free RO water stations are available airside near gate seating at GOI — a small but genuinely useful detail in Goa’s heat.
A crucial Dabolim-specific rule
Uber and Ola are prohibited from picking up passengers at GOI due to local taxi union regulations — they can drop you off, but not collect you. Use the official Goa Taxi app or the prepaid taxi counter instead. This restriction does not apply the same way at GOX, where app cabs operate more normally, though local taxi unions remain influential across Goa generally.
At the border
Immigration & baggage rules
Rules differ by who you are. Here’s the short version — treat it as orientation, not legal advice, and check official Indian government sources for your specific situation.
Indian citizens
- Immigration applies to international trips only — passport, boarding pass, and destination visa where needed.
- Fast Track Immigration (FTI-TTP) e-gates are being rolled out at major Indian airports — check availability at your specific Goa airport before relying on it.
- Returning residents get a duty-free allowance (general goods up to a rupee limit, plus limited alcohol and tobacco) — check current CBIC limits before shopping abroad.
OCI holders & PRs abroad
- OCI card holders use visa-free entry with a valid foreign passport + OCI card.
- Indian-origin travellers with foreign PR (e.g. US green card) but no OCI need a visa/e-visa like other foreign nationals.
Foreign nationals
- e-Visa holders: follow the dedicated e-Visa lanes at immigration — carry the printed ETA approval. This matters more at Goa than most airports, given the large charter volume of European winter-sun tourists.
- Regular visas use the standard foreigner queues; complete the arrival card from the plane or the hall.
- Customs: green channel if nothing to declare; currency above prescribed limits (foreign cash beyond ~US$5,000, or higher total instruments) must be declared.
Allowances and visa rules change — verify with the Bureau of Immigration (boi.gov.in) and Indian Customs (cbic.gov.in) before you fly.

Comfort & cash
Lounges, ATMs & currency exchange
GOI (Dabolim) lounge
A single airside lounge on the second floor with a genuinely good hot Indian buffet (fish curry and poee bread are the local specialties) plus a bar and a view of the naval apron. Access via Priority Pass, LoungeKey, premium cards, or walk-in (~₹1,600). Can hit capacity during the 1–4 PM flight wave, and entry is sometimes restricted to within 2 hours of your flight.
GOX (Mopa) lounges & forex
Modern lounge facilities as part of the newer terminal build, plus reliable ATMs and currency exchange counters at both airports (landside and airside). Airport exchange rates carry a premium — change only what you need. India runs heavily on UPI; a working international card plus a small cash reserve covers most travellers.
Inside the terminal
Shopping, restaurants & restrooms
Shopping
Both airports have duty-free on the international side; look for Goan cashew feni (the local spirit) and cashew nuts as genuinely worthwhile, authentic souvenirs rather than generic duty-free items.
Food
GOI’s lounge fish curry is a highlight even if you’re not flying business class — worth the walk-up fee if you have time. Both terminals offer a mix of Goan, South Indian, and international fast-food options.
Restrooms & essentials
Restrooms are frequent and well-signed at both airports, with accessible facilities. GOI has free RO water stations airside; GOX, being newer, generally offers more spacious, modern amenities throughout.
Not a normal transfer
Getting between GOI and GOX
This isn’t a shuttle situation
Unlike terminal transfers at other airports, GOI and GOX are ~70 km apart — a full taxi or car journey of 90 minutes to 2+ hours depending on traffic and season. There’s no airport shuttle between them. If you’re connecting between a flight into one and a flight out of the other, this is effectively a mini road trip through Goa, not a quick transfer.
Practical advice
Avoid same-day GOI-in/GOX-out connections unless you have several hours of buffer. If your trip genuinely spans both North and South Goa, it’s far better to treat the two airports as your trip’s natural bookends (fly in near your first stop, out near your last) rather than trying to shuttle between them mid-trip.
Getting to & from
Ground transportation
From GOI (Dabolim)
- Prepaid taxi counter at arrivals — the most reliable option (remember, no Uber/Ola pickup here).
- Goa Taxi app — the official state alternative to Uber/Ola.
- To South Goa beaches (Colva, Benaulim): 20–40 min, ₹800–1,500.
- To North Goa beaches (Calangute): 60–90 min.
- KTCL government bus to Panaji exists but is slow and infrequent.
- Nearest train station: Vasco da Gama, ~4 km — not convenient for most tourists’ onward travel.
From GOX (Mopa)
- Prepaid taxi counters, plus Uber/Ola and GoaMiles (the official state taxi app) all operate normally here.
- To North Goa beaches (Calangute, Baga, Anjuna): 30–60 min.
- To Panaji: ~45 minutes.
- To South Goa: expect 2.5–3+ hours — genuinely impractical for a same-day connection.

When things go wrong
Lost & found and airline help
Lost something at the airport?
- GOI is AAI-operated — report lost items at the terminal’s lost & found desk or via AAI’s official Goa airport page.
- GOX is GMR-operated — check miagoaairport.com for current lost & found contact details.
- Left something on the plane? That goes to your airline, not the airport — contact the airline directly.
Airline customer service
Use only the contact details on airlines’ official websites — fake “customer care numbers” planted in search results are a common scam in India:
- Air India — airindia.com → Contact Us
- IndiGo — goindigo.in → Contact Us (24/7 chat in-app)
- SpiceJet — spicejet.com → Contact Us
- Akasa Air — akasaair.com → Support
- International/charter carriers: use the airline’s own site, or their ticketing counters at your specific airport.
Health & emergencies
Hospitals near the airports
Near GOI (South Goa)
- Goa Medical College, Bambolim — the state’s main government hospital, ~20–25 min.
- Manipal Hospital, Dona Paula — private multi-speciality hospital, ~25–30 min.
Near GOX (North Goa)
- Apollo Victor Hospital, Margao / Panaji-area facilities — reachable, though North Goa’s private hospital density is lower than South.
- India’s all-in-one emergency number is 112 (ambulance also via 102/108).
Diplomatic help
Consulates & honorary consuls in Goa
Full embassies are in Delhi, and even major consulates are mostly in Mumbai — but given Goa’s huge European charter tourism, several countries maintain honorary consuls in Panaji for exactly this kind of emergency.
In Goa itself
Look for honorary consulates (UK, Russia, and others with heavy Goa tourist traffic have maintained these at various times) based in or near Panaji — check current listings before you travel, as honorary consul postings change more often than full consulates.
If Goa can’t help
- The nearest full consulates for most nationalities are in Mumbai (a flight or long drive away).
- For a lost passport you’ll typically also need a police report (Goa Police supports online lost-property complaints).
- In a genuine emergency, your country’s Delhi embassy can coordinate remotely even if there’s no local consul.
Stocking up
Groceries & essentials nearby
Physical stores
- South Goa: Margao is the region’s main market town with supermarkets and pharmacies, ~20–30 min from GOI.
- North Goa: Calangute, Mapusa (the famous Friday market town), and Panaji all have good grocery and pharmacy options, 30–45 min from GOX.
Delivery apps
Quick-commerce apps (Blinkit, Zepto, Swiggy Instamart) work well in Goa’s more built-up tourist belts (Calangute, Candolim, Baga, Margao) but coverage thins out in quieter beach villages — check availability at your specific address.
Off-airport dining
Restaurants & bars near the airports
Everything below is outside the terminals — for food inside the airport, see the shopping & restaurants section above.
Near GOI
Vasco da Gama and Margao have solid, unpretentious Goan restaurants — good fish thali and local seafood without the beach-resort markup found further north.
Near GOX
North Goa is where Goa’s famous beach-shack and restaurant scene really lives — Calangute, Baga, Anjuna and Vagator have everything from beach shacks to upscale dining, though it’s still 30-60 minutes from the airport itself.
Don’t skip: local Goan food
Wherever you land, prioritise genuine Goan cuisine over generic tourist fare — fish curry rice, vindaloo, xacuti, and bebinca (the layered dessert) are worth seeking out over standard multi-cuisine restaurant menus.
Quick answers
Frequently asked questions
Does Goa have one airport or two?
Two — Dabolim (GOI) in South Goa, and Manohar International at Mopa (GOX) in North Goa, about 70 km apart. Always check which one your ticket uses.
Which Goa airport should I fly into?
Pick based on where you’re staying: GOI for South Goa (Colva, Benaulim, Palolem), GOX for North Goa (Calangute, Baga, Anjuna, Arambol). Choosing the wrong one can add 2+ hours to your transfer.
Can I fly into one Goa airport and out of the other?
Yes — many travellers do this deliberately for North-and-South trips: fly into whichever is closer to your first stop, out of whichever is closer to your last. Both are bookable on the same search on most flight sites.
Can I take Uber or Ola from Dabolim (GOI)?
Not to pick up — local taxi union rules prohibit app-cab pickups at GOI (drop-offs are fine). Use the prepaid taxi counter or the official Goa Taxi app instead. This restriction doesn’t apply the same way at GOX.
Why do some flights get delayed at Dabolim specifically?
GOI shares its runway with the Indian Navy’s INS Hansa air station, and commercial flights typically can’t operate roughly 8:30 AM–12:30 PM on weekdays for naval training. Delays that push into this window can cause holds.
Is Manohar International (GOX) the “better” airport?
For most travellers, yes — it’s newer, larger, has 24/7 operations with no naval restrictions, and normal app-cab access. GOI remains genuinely better only if you’re specifically staying in South Goa.
This guide was verified in July 2026 against official airport, airline and government sources.
Goa’s two-airport system is still evolving as GOX expands — always reconfirm your airport code,
visas, and timings before you travel.
